When used as the base film for Thermal Transfer Ribbons (TTR), it serves as the substrate onto which ink/wax/resin coatings are applied for thermal printing.
Polyester film is the base material of choice for Thermal Transfer Ribbons (TTR). The thermal transfer printing applications are segmented into "standard TTR," Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer (D2T2), and thermal stencil. For standard TTR, the main thickness is 4.5 microns.
